APENIN – ALPAKA

Quality wools – natural – non-allergenic

ALPACA

Alpaca wool is a high-quality fibre with excellent characteristics. It is non-allergenic since it does not contain lanolin, therefore alpaca knitwear can be safely worn by anyone allergic to sheep’s wool.
In contrast to the fibres in sheep’s wool, which have a hooked structure that scratches the skin, alpaca has smooth fibres, which are soft and gentle against the skin. We only use the softest parts from the coat of each animal and so obtain a much smaller quantity of wool, but a higher quality.
Few people realise that although an alpaca fibre is extremely fine (between14µ and 22µ, the equivalent of thousandths of a millimetre) it is also hollow. It is this central air passage that makes an alpaca garment thermal and very comfortable to wear.
The addition of a considerable quantity of high quality silk thread ensures that each of our garments maintains its shape and gives years of wear.

ANGORA

Angora rabbit’s wool is incredibly soft, does not irritate the skin and is extremely lightweight due to its particular fineness (between 8µ and13µ). It too is non-allergenic and also helps to reduce rheumatic pains. In addition it traps the body’s natural heat, insulating it from external cold, and it draws off the body’s humidity, thus keeping it warm and dry.

SETA

Silk is another of nature’s natural fibres. It is non-allergenic and thermal like alpaca wool, and it also draws off the body’s humidity. We include silk in our high-quality wool garments in order to give them greater strength (a thread of silk is far stronger than a steel thread of the same size). In addition, silk helps our garments maintain their shape.

Caring for our quality garments

Our knitwear is suitable for every occasion. To enjoy long lasting wear from one of our products, we suggest you care for it in the following way:

  • NEVER use a regular washing detergent but only ones that are neutral or slightly acid. Special detergents for wool, or better still, for wool and silk, are commercially available.
  • The garment should be washed by hand in cold water with the minimum of handling to avoid the smooth fibres becoming matted together.
  • Gently squeeze the excess water from the garment and lie it flat on a towel to dry, turning it over now and then to help the drying process.

Remember that the more alpaca knitwear is worn, the softer it becomes!
Wishing you many years of comfortable wear!
